Did you know: not everyone hears the world the same way? Across Singapore, there are about 500 -700 children with hearing loss in primary schools. Each Deaf or hard-of-hearing kid is unique – some of them can’t hear anything, while others can hear some sounds. As their ears work differently to hearing people’s, they may face some communication challenges.
On our sunny island, where misconceptions and a lack of awareness can cast a cloudy spell, we believe in planting seeds of knowledge early on to grow a society where everyone, regardless of hearing abilities, feel included and understood.
Introducing “Hear Me Out!” – an informational publication which educates primary school children about their Deaf and hard-of-hearing peers, nurturing the art of connection and consideration. On top of that, the sticker sheets teaches simple signs in Singapore Sign Language (SgSL) which unlocks a new skill of communication and breaks down social – and sound – barriers!
